SOPHE’s peer-reviewed journal, Health Promotion Practice, seeks short articles for focus issue. Deadline March 22, 2019
Washington, D.C. – February 13, 2019 – Health Promotion Practice (HPP) is calling for short article abstracts on issues regarding health equity and tobacco for a special collection to be published in 2019.
Abstracts should contribute new knowledge from tobacco-related research and/or interventions that contributes to better understanding equity-related disparities among racial/ethnic minority and underserved populations.
The journal welcomes abstracts on topics specific to racial/ethnic minority and underserved populations to include, but not limited to:
- E-cigarette use among youth.
- Tribal ceremonial versus recreational use of tobacco.
- Tobacco use among active duty military, veterans and their families.
- Distribution, access, promotion and advertising of tobacco products including e-cigarettes.
- Understanding how flavors influence tobacco use.
- Effective educational campaigns, programs or initiatives including quit strategies and support.
The focus issue is a partnership between HPP and the Food and Drug Administration Office of Minority Health.
Submission Requirements
Abstracts (250 words) must address the following:

- Problem or issue
- Priority population and the related disparity or equity concern
- Methods
- Results
- Implications for practice, policy, and/or research
Abstracts should reflect material that can be developed into articles of 1500-2000 words. No more than three tables/figures/images. No more than 20 references.

Authors receive email confirmation. Decision announced on April 9, 2019. Invited authors are required to submit their short article manuscripts by June 3, 2019 to begin the peer review process.
