New search announced for editor-in-chief of SOPHE’s
Health Promotion Practice

Dr. Ramirez-Valles serves as professor and director of Community Health Sciences at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Public Health. He brings more than 20 years of scholarship and editorial experience working with academic and professional publications, ranging from ad-hoc reviewer, editorial board member, associate editor, and as editor of SOPHE’s journal Health Promotion Practice for the last four years. Additionally, Jesus’ experience with HE&B dates to 1997, first as an author and reviewer and later as associate editor from 2003 to 2010.

“We are extremely pleased Dr. Ramirez-Valles will assume the position as HE&B journal editor and succeed John Allegrante, PhD, (LHD). Dr. Allegrante has provided seven years of outstanding scholarship and dedicated service to HE&B,” says David A. Birch, PhD, MCHES, SOPHE 2016-17 President. “With Dr. Ramirez-Valles’ leadership and vision, the journal will continue to be one of the most prominent and influential peer-reviewed publications in the field of behavioral sciences and health education.”

HE&B publishes authoritative empirical research and commentary on critical health issues of interest to a broad range of professionals whose work involves understanding factors associated with health behavior and evidence-based social and behavioral strategies to improve health status. With an impact factor of 2.13, the journal also examines the processes of planning, implementing, managing, and assessing health education and social-behavioral interventions as documented in case studies, program evaluations, literature reviews, and discussions of theories of health behavior and health status.

Given Dr. Ramirez-Valles’ HE&B appointment, SOPHE will launch a search for a new editor of Health Promotion Practice. HPP complements SOPHE’s other journals by focusing on critical and strategic information for professionals engaged in the practice of developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion and disease prevention programs.
